Brexit and the Future of Global Trade

4:30 - 8:00 p.m., October 24                                                                                4:30 - 8:00 p.m., October 25
at History Museum Plovdiv                                                                                             at Grand Hotel Sofia

2018 is expected to mark critical decisions on the future of global trade. The next EU summit is scheduled for October 18-19, 2018, and by this point the plans for a future trade relationship between the EU and the UK need to be announced and approved by the EU Council if there is to be an amicable settlement. Alternatively, we face the prospect of a ‘hard Brexit’ and in the UK contingency plans are being developed for this scenario.

Trade could be further complicated by the recent change in US trade relationships worldwide which potentially will have a greater impact than Brexit in Europe, as well as causing a fundamental shift in international trade relations with traditional suppliers to the US seeking new markets elsewhere.

The joint BBBA, AmCham, and The Business for Plovdiv conferences will seek to analyse the impact of these two disruptive economic factors on trade and the effect that they will have on Bulgaria. It will also seek to advise on measures that companies should be taking now in order to prepare themselves for this rapidly changing environment.
